Daharki train crash occurred after track's welding joint broke: initial report

Six coaches and the engine of Millat Express did not derail, said the report.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Initial Investigation report of the the Daharki train collision finds that the accident occurred after a track’s welding joint broke which caused bogies of Millat Express train to derail.

According to the report, 12 coaches of the Millat Express crashed onto a down track. The Karachi-bound Sir Syed Express, as a result, collided with Millat Express’ coaches on the down track, causing the accident.

The engine of Sir Syed Express and four coaches derailed as a result of the accident, said the report, adding that experts were retrieving data from the black boxes of both train engines.

The report, as per sources, stated that the data obtained from the black boxes will be included in the investigation report of the Federal Inspectors of Railways.

On the other hand, death toll in collision between the trains near Ghotki has surged to 62 after 10 more dead bodies were recovered from wreckage of the trains.

Railways authorities have also announced Rs1.5 million each for the heirs of those killed in the accident. Depending on the nature of their injuries, victims of the crash will be given a minimum of Rs 50,000 and a maximum of Rs300,000, said SACM Firdous Ashiq Awan.
