Former DG FIA opens Pandora's box with serious allegations against PM
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Bashir Memon, former Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), has opened a new Pandora’s box with a string of serious allegations against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
In an exclusive interview with Dunya News program ‘On the Front’, the former head of FIA alleged that Imran Khan wanted Maryam Nawaz to be tried for terrorism, an order he outright rejected by making clear that it was against the law.
Bashir Memon alleged that the Prime Minister had said that no one in Saudi Arabia could disobey the order of Muhammad bin Salman. “I had told you to arrest Shehbaz Sharif”, he quoted the PM.
The former DG FIA said that he rejected this order as well and told the Prime Minister that it was not his mandate to arrest Shehbaz Sharif. However, he clarified that these conversations happened during different meetings.
“My position was that cases cannot be made without evidence”, he added.
He said that the Prime Minister used to say that ANP chief Asfandyar Wali had a property in Malaysia while he also talked about the arrest of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Rana Sanaullah and Ahsan Iqbal.
Referring to his statements before coming into power, Memon said that Imran Khan used to say in his rallies that ‘they’ should not be spared. He also alleged that the PM said to him, "Arif Naqvi was my friend but you destroyed him."
The former DG FIA challenged Prime Minister Imran Khan to write a letter to the Supreme Court asking for an inquiry into the allegations, adding that he was ready to face the PM in court.
