Punjab announces new restrictions to deal with latest wave of COVID-19

There have been more than 112,000 cases of coronavirus and more than 2,500 deaths in Lahore.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar on Monday announced new coronavirus restrictions including a ban on indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies from April 1.

A high level meeting under the chair of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar was held to review worsening situation of the pandemic in the province.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, CM Punjab announced suspension of Metro bus and Orange Line train service as well as public transport to curb the spread of virus.

He further said that the provincial government has reduced markets and shopping malls timings to 6pm from 8pm while businesses will remain close on weekend (Saturday and Sunday). It was also decided to shut all public parks and ban dine-in services at restaurants and only takeaway will be allowed.

Wearing of face mask mandatory has been made mandatory and a policy of micro smart lockdown will also be adopted. Usman Buzdar also directed to strictly enforce coronavirus related guidelines of National Command and Operation Center (NCOC).

It is pertinent to mention here that the restrictions will be imposed on cities of the province where coronavirus positivity rate has reached 12 percent or higher.

Earlier, Health department sources said that the positive rate of coronavirus cases in Lahore has reached 23% while the situation is deteriorating further. If Lahore is not completely locked down, the situation could get out of control.
