Senate Election: Petition filed in ECP for disqualification of Yousaf Raza Gillani
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a petition in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking disqualification of PDM joint Senate hopeful Yousaf Raza Gillani.
The petition, filed by PTI leaders Farrukh Habib and Kanwal Shauzab, says that Yousaf Raza Gillani committed corrupt practices and his son Ali Haider Gilani urged MNAs to waste their votes.
Talking to media persons outside the Election Commission after submitting the petition, Farrukh Habib said that the eyes of the entire nation are set on the Election Commission’s next move. Kanwal Shauzab said that Yousaf Raza Gillani no longer has any moral justification to remain a candidate.
Federal Minister Shafqat Mahmood said that the Election Commission should take notice of the video. The Prime Minister’s intention behind seeking the opinion of the Supreme Court was to have a transparent election.
Talking to media earlier, Fawad Chaudhry said that despite having the technology, the Election Commission says that it will be used next year.
“Should we let the upcoming elections be held as they used to even after seeing the video”, he asked.
"Unfortunately, the video has disproved ECP’s argument. It is hoped that the Chief Election Commissioner will take immediate notice of the video”, said the Minister.
Fawad Chaudhry said the Election Commission should immediately look into these complaints and take emergency measures in this regard.
