Senate elections: All candidates for technocrat, general seats win unopposed in Punjab

LAHORE (Dunya News) - All candidates for the technocrat and general seats in Punjab for the Senate elections have won unopposed, according to EC Punjab.

A statement issued by the Election Commission of Punjab has said that candidates of all parties have won the technocrat and general seats from the province of Punjab unopposed.

Election Commission Punjab sources said that Azam Nazir Tarar, Syed Ali Zafar, Dr Zarqa, Sadia Abbasi, Sajid Mir, Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui, Ejaz Chaudhry, Aun Abbas and Kamil Ali Agha have won Senate seats from Punjab.

Sources in the Election Commission of Punjab said that Saifullah Sarwar Niazi has also won unopposed from Punjab while Azeem-ul-Haq Minhas and Saiful Malook Khokhar had withdrawn their nomination papers.

Afnanullah Khan, son of late Mushahidullah Khan, has also been elected as Senator.

The notification is likely to be issued tomorrow in this regard.


Sindh


In Sindh total of 17 candidates are contesting for the 11 Senate seats. PPP’s 11 candidates are contesting from Sindh.
In addition, MQM and PTI have two candidates each, while GDA and TLP have one each.

Two candidates from PPP, one from PTI and one from TLP are contesting for Technocrat seats.

Two PPP female candidates and one MQM candidate are contesting for the women s seat. There is no female candidate from PTI in Sindh for the senate elections.


Balochistan


On the other hand, PTI has suffered a major setback in the Balochistan Senate elections as the only PTI nominee from Balochistan, Zahoor Agha, has withdrawn from the Senate elections.

According to sources, Zahoor Agha has submitted a petition to the Election Commission office to withdraw his nomination papers. He also appeared before the Returning Officer.

Meanwhile, BAP s Aurangzeb Jamaldini has also withdrawn from contesting the Senate elections. From Balochistan, 12 Senate seats will now be contested by 32 candidates.


Khyber Pakhtunkhwa


According to the reposts from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seven candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers for the Senate elections including PTI s candidate for the Senate general seat Meena Khan Afridi.

PTI candidate Najibullah Khattak has also filed a petition to withdraw his nomination papers. Independent candidate for the technocrat seat, Senator Barrister Saif, has also withdrawn from the Senate election.

According to sources, independent candidate Shakeel Afridi has also withdrawn from the Senate election. PTI’s Dost Muhammad Khan has also withdrawn his nomination papers from the general seat.

Independent candidates Nasrullah Khan Wazir, in-charge of the Chief Minister’s Complaints Cell Dilroz Khan and Farzana Javed of the PTI have also withdrawn from the Senate elections.
