ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A case has been registered against lawyers who stormed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) following demolition of illegal chambers in District Court. Police raids are underway to arrest the lawyers named in the case.
A spokesman for the Islamabad High Court (IHC) said in a statement that the case was registered against the lawyers involved in the commotion.
According to details FIR has been launched against 300 lawyers who stormed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) however 22 lawyers have been named in the FIR under terrorism provisions.
A statement issued by the spokesperson of the Islamabad High Court said that some lawyers attacked the Chief Justice s block and vandalized it. Contempt of court proceedings have been initiated against the lawyers nominated in the case.
He said that a reference has been sent to the Islamabad Bar Council to suspend the licenses of the lawyers involved in the attack on the High Court.
Earlier taking note of the commotion of lawyers over the demolition of illegal chambers in District Court, Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Athar Minallah has issued an order to close all the courts till further orders.
According to details, the lawyers went berserk against the demolition of illegal chambers in the district court and stormed the Islamabad High Court (IHC). In view of the situation, a heavy contingent of police was called and taking immediate action arrested several lawyers.
Meanwhile, sources said that there have been demands from the lawyers for talks in which it has been said that the lawyers arrested by the police should be released immediately.
The chambers demolished by the district administration should be rebuilt and compensation of Rs 500,000 per chamber should be paid.
Lawyers have demanded that DC Islamabad, concerned SP and Sessions Judge be transferred from Islamabad.
Until the transfer of the district courts, chambers for young lawyers should also be set up on the remaining land of the football ground in F-8.
Ten acres of land should be provided for lawyers chambers where the district courts are being shifted.
