Bilawal vows to challenge presidential ordinance on Senate elections

KARACHI (Dunya News) - PPP Chairman Bilawal Zardari, while announcing to challenge the Presidential Ordinance on Senate election in court, said that if amendments are to be made through ordinances, the National Assembly should be closed down. He expressed hope that the Supreme Court too would oppose the ordinance.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Bilawal Zardari accused the PTI government of trying to fix the Senate elections.

“These people are trying to make the Senate election as controversial as the National Assembly elections”, he said.

The PPP chairman said the ordinance could make Parliament controversial and if the government’s conspiracy succeeds, it would be a major attack on the electoral process.

“We hope that the court will decide this important matter in accordance with the constitution and the law”, said Bilawal.

He said the opposition was ready to contest Senate election and give a tough time to the government, even through open vote. Bilawal claimed that PTI’s own members were ready to cast their open votes against the government.

He further said that the opposition was being deprived of its right to address the assembly, if the right to vote is also taken away, there would be a reaction from all parties.

Bilawal announced that through the Sindh government, they would challenge the Presidential Ordinance in the Supreme Court and present their case.
