Flood alert issued for River Chenab after India releases water without pre-schedule
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Flood alert has been issued after India has released a large quantity of water in river Chenab without any prior notice. Authorities have opened Mangla Dam spillway and flowed the water towards Rasool Barrage.
According to the details, India in an act of water aggression against Pakistan, suddenly released one lakh cusecs of water in Chenab River.
The water released from Baglihar Lake along with the river water reached Head Marala in the form of 160,000 cusec relay.
Alerts were issued in Gujwanwala, Hafizabad and Jhang in view of the danger of major flood relay in Chenab River.
Due to rains, the water level in the Jhelum River has risen and the inflow of water into the Mangla Dam has increased. Indus River System Authority (IRSA) officials feared a massive flood of 600,000 cusecs at the Mangla Dam by Thursday evening.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has alerted the concerned departments to deal with the emergency situation in view of possible floods in Chenab and Jhelum rivers.
Usman Buzdar directed that the situation of rivers should be monitored 24 hours a day and prior arrangements should be made to deal with the flood situation.
