KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistani experts from Dow University have made a breakthrough and prepared an intravenous immunoglobulin for the treatment of coronavirus.

The research team at Dow University has developed intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) through antibodies obtained from the blood of patients that have recovered from coronavirus.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Saeed Qureshi has termed this as an important development against coronavirus. In a world first, the research team, led by Dr Shaukat Ali, Principal of the Dow College of Biotechnology, has completed the preparation of an effective immunoglobulin treatment for the coronavirus.

The Globulin was obtained from clear antibodies obtained from recovered coronavirus patients. Experts at Dow University have already conducted globulin testing and animal safety trials. Globulin preparation is a ray of hope in the current crisis and is entirely different to treating patients through plasma, said Professor Shaukat Ali.
