CM KP reduces prison sentences in view of coronavirus
This directive will not apply to prisoners convicted in terrorism cases
Peshawar (Dunya News) - Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has announced reduction of prisoners sentences in the wake of concerns over the coronavirus on humanitarian grounds.
According to sources, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has directed to reduce the prison sentence of convicts by two months, saying that the corornavirus has become an epidemic and KP government will provide relief to the prisoners along with the people.
Mahmood Khan said in his statement that reduction in sentences would result in the release of many prisoners although this directive will not apply to prisoners convicted in terrorism cases.
Advisor to the KP Chief Minister on Jails Taj Muhammad Khan said that all jails will receive the declaration today and that the statistics of the released prisoners will be compiled soon.
