PM Imran Khan directs to speed up work on hydropower projects

Work on Diamer-Bhasha Dam will commence in 2020 and will be completed by 2027

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan while directing to accelerate pace of work on hydropower projects, said that increase in water storage capacity and production of cheap electricity is government’s preference.

According to details, PM checked progress on hydropower projects and showed satisfaction on pace of work. He directed ministries to resolve issues which are hindering progress on projects.

He added that increasing water storage capacities and production of cheap electricity is one of government’s preferences. He said that effective use of water resources is a key factor in agricultural and economic development. Cheap electricity will end power shortages and increase production capabilities of local industry enabling them to compete in international market.

PM was briefed that work on Dasu hydropower project will commence in 2025 and will be completed by 2027. It will generate 2160 MW of electricity.

Work on Diamer-Bhasha Dam will commence in 2020 and will be completed by 2027. It will store 8.1 million acre foot of water and will generate 4500 MW of electricity.
