Farhatullah Babar said opposition is united and announcement regarding Azadi March has been made.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) –The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Awami National Party (ANP) have placed forward a joint recommendation of convening “All-Parties Conference (APC)” or another meeting of the opposition’s Rehbar Committee for pondering over the next course of action following the call of ‘Azadi March’ by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

The development came after PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday held a meeting with ANP chief Asfandyar Wali in Islamabad.

During the meeting, matters pertaining to ongoing political situation in the country, Kashmir issue, Afghan peace process and regional situation, and Azadi March were discussed.

PPP leaders including Farhatullah Babar, Nayyar Bukhari and Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, and ANP leaders including Zahid Khan, Mian Iftikhar and Ameer Haider Hoti attended the meeting.

Later, talking to the media, PPP’s Babar said that the opposition parties were united and the announcement of Azadi March has already been made, hinting that the decision might not be reversed.

The PPP leader said that the current government was the product of rigging, adding that free, fair and transparent elections should be held.

On the other hand, ANP leader Iftikhar Hussain stated that his party wanted a united opposition, adding that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman should take other opposition parties into confidence before proceeding with his plans.

He said that the government wanted to create differences between the opposition parties, and accused the ruling party of ruining the state’s economy.

On Thursday, JUI-F’s Rehman said during a press conference: "The current government is the result of a fake election and fake results […] all opposition parties had rejected the July 25, 2018 elections and had called for fresh elections.”

He mentioned that the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal had carried out 15 ‘million marches’ in the country to raise awareness among the people.

“As a result of this illegal government and its incompetency, the state’s economy has sunk [...] traders have shut down businesses as a consequence of heavy taxation.”

The JUI-F chief has been persuading other political parties to join his anti-government demonstration on Oct 27.
