UN appeals to India, Pakistan to stay calm amid rising tension in IoK.

NEW YORK (Dunya News) – The United Nations (UN) has appealed to India and Pakistan to stay calm amidst rising tension in India-occupied Kashmir (IoK), reported Dunya News on Monday.

Stephane Dujarric – spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General – said it has been reported by Pakistan and the UN Military Observer Group that the military activities have increased on the Line of Control (LoC) in recent days.

He urged both countries to exercise restraint so that the tensions do not mount further.

Let it be known that authorities in occupied Kashmir placed large parts of the disputed region under lockdown early Monday while India sent in tens of thousands of additional troops and traded accusations of clashes with Pakistan at their de facto border.

Former chief ministers of IoK Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah were placed under house arrest and situation in the valley further deteriorated.
