"Why were the courts orders not followed?" the judge asked.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a contempt of court notice to Provincial Minister of Sindh for Local Government Saeed Ghani over his comments on the matter of anti-encroachment drive in Karachi.

The attorney general, secretary defence and managing director of the Water Board and Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar among other officials appeared before the court registry in Karachi.

Justice Gulzar expressed displeasure over the matter, and remarked that 70 percent of the constructions in the metropolis were illegal. Subsequently, the report presented by the attorney general was rejected as ‘ambiguous, unsatisfactory and equivalent to defrauding’.

“Why were the court’s orders not followed?” the judge asked, while ordering to demolish illegal buildings.

He further said that 8-storey buildings in Delhi Colony have no water and lifts, and illegal parking could be observed in Sadar area including Zainab Market.

“When will you take action?” he asked, while directing SBCA to immediately demolish all illegal constructions in the city.
