Sirajul Haq takes oath as JI chief for second time

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Senator Sirajul Haq on Tuesday afternoon took oath as the chief of Jamat-e-Islami (JI) for the second time in a ceremony held at Mansoora ground in Lahore.
Representatives of many political and religious parties, lawyers, workers, media persons, and other JI leaders and workers were present in the ceremony.
In his address on the occasion, he distinguished the JI party than other political parties in the country by stating that it carries responsibility and duty of being accountable in front of the general public.
He lashed out at the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) by claiming that all departments, the parliament, judicial system and legislature have become dysfunctional.
He claimed that the 2018 General Election in Pakistan were “engineered and only those people were declared elected who were loyal to the actual rulers.”
“Even today, nearly a dozen ministers “of Pervez Musharraf” in the federal cabinet are mocking democracy and democratic norms,” he said, adding that the general public trusted the PTI, however it has become obvious that its rule is a continuity of previous tenures of the governments.
Haq said the JI wanted rule of the constitution and the law in the country. He said that the nation had always exercised its vote in search of betterment.
Referring to corruption, Sirajul Haq said the JI was the first to launch a campaign against corruption and by now, the nation had made it its narrative and the media had also supported the JI stance.
He said the JI wanted across the board accountability and recovery of the ill-gotten wealth from the plunderers. He said if the corrupt were subjected to a court trial instead of media trial, nobody would be able to raise a finger.
“Foreign and internal policies of this government are same as of previous governments, whereas people had been anticipating that the new government would reduce poverty and adopt Islamic code of conduct [for reforms],” he added.
He asserted that inflation has risen to 9.4, and despite of taking loans, the prices of petrol and rate of dollar could not be controlled.

The JI chief supported Doha talks and said that the world colonialism should learn a lesson from NATO’s defeat in Afghanistan. He said that faith could not be defeated by gunpowder and military might.
He further said that Afghanistan could not be left at the mercy of India, and urged Islamabad to adopt an effective strategy for friendly relations with Afghanistan.
He paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the Pakistan Armed Forces.
The JI chief also saluted the Prime Minister of New Zealand for expressed solidarity with the Muslims in her country in the wake of a terrorist attacks.
