Multan PP-218 by-election: Voting begins

MULTAN (Dunya News) – Voters of the constituency PP-218 in Multan on Sunday are heading to the polling stations for a by-election, Dunya News reported.

Amid tight security measures, polling began at 8am and is scheduled to continue till 5pm.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Mazhar Abbas Raan.

Six candidates are contesting the by-election with the main contest between the PTI’s Malik Wasif Mazhar Raan and Pakistan Peoples Partys (PPP) Malik Muhammad Arshad. The PML-N is backing PPP’s candidate Arshad.

Besides, Malik Shahid Abbas Raan, Muhammad Tufail, Muhammad Ramzan and Muhammad Israr-Ul-Haq Cheema are contesting as independent candidates.

A total of 203,188 voters, including 111,918 males and 91,270 females, are registered for casting votes in the constituency, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

In the July 2018 General Elections, MPA Malik Mazhar Abbas Raan had got 45,817 votes while PPP candidate Malik Muhammad Abbas bagged 37,417 votes and PML-N’s Zaffar Ahmed had secured 25,000 votes.
