Parliamentary leaders given in-camera briefing on Indian aggression
The briefing was held at Parliament House.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Leaders of parliamentary parties in the National Assembly (NA) were given in-camera briefing at the Parliament House on Wednesday over the escalating Pakistan-India tension in the wake of violation of Line of Control (LoC) by Indian Air Force.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi briefed the parliamentarians of the foreign policy strategy of government while Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, the director general (DG) of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) apprised them of the input of military.
Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari,NA Speaker Asad Qaiser, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani among others also attended meeting.
The parliamentary leaders were informed about violation of Line of Control (LoC) by India and timely response by Pakistan Air Force.
They were informed about the professional preparations of armed forces and the fact and role being played by Pakistan to eliminate tension in the region.
The parliamentary leaders were briefed on the decisions taken by the National Security Committee and the National Command Authority in the wake of violation of Line of Control (LoC) by Indian Air Force.
In a response to Indian Line of Control (LoC) violation, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) destroyed two Indian fighter jets on Wednesday morning.
According to details, the wreckage of one aircraft fell in Central Kashmir’s Budgam while the other’s in Pakistan territory. Two of the pilots have been killed in the incident.
Addressing a press conference later, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said that Pakistan Air Force engaged six targets from across the Line of Control in Occupied Kashmir this morning.
He said Pak armed forces have capability, will, resolve, people backing and all resources. But being a responsible state, we decided that we will not aim any military target. We also wanted to ensure that no human loss or collateral damage is done during our engaging the targets. He said we selected six targets but we hit the areas close to them while keeping a safe distance, in order to demonstrate our capability. This action was purely in self-defense and with no aggressive designs.
Prime Minister Imran Khan in his address to the nation reiterated his dialogue offer to India for resolving issues between the two nations.
