Saeed Ghani cries foul over SA Speaker Durrani's arrest
In his talk to the media, he said "NAB is working on an agenda."
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani on Thursday came down hard on the federal government after the arrest of Sindh Assembly (SA) Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during investigation into his assets which are allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income.
“If arrests are being made only on the basis of inquiries, then Prime Minister Imran Khan should also be arrested,” he said, adding that were such kind of raids made against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders or members.
In his talk to the media, he said "NAB is working on an agenda."
“Does the NAB chairman’s conscience not awaken at illegal arrests? It seems like the accountability bureau was made for the PPP,” he added.
“Everyone should be treated alike,” Ghani said. “There is one law and Constitution in the country. Could anyone tell me what Punjab case’s trial is being conducted in Sindh? If we say anything, then we are blamed for playing the Sindh card.”
"We are being punished for being patriots. If an investigation into people’s family is being done, then families of Pervaiz Khattak and Aleem Khan should also be investigated,” he asserted.
Ghani added, Durrani was not an absconder and was not running away from NAB. “Why is this impression being created that the investigation against Sindh is being conducted in Islamabad and Rawalpindi? This is an act of rousing the leaders.”
“Why should Durrani tender a resignation?” he asked while questioning did PM Imran Khan or Pervez Khattak resign?
“If such behavior with our family members continues, then the entire province will respond,” he said.
Rashid Rabbani and Waqar Mehdi called it ‘kidnapping of SA speaker’ and claimed that the party has been striving for the rule of law and protection of the Constitution in Pakistan.
On Wednesday night, a team of NAB searched the residence of the SA speaker for several hours in Karachi.
According to Durrani’s family, NAB officers carried out a raid and took away many documents and files.
