Kite flying: Punjab CM takes notice, seeks report from police
CM Buzdar has ordered to ensure the implementation of the law banning kite flying.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Khan Buzdar has taken notice of the incidents of kite flying in various cities of the province.
Seeking report from the police high-ups in this respect, he directed them to take stern action against the violators of the ban.
CM Buzdar has ordered to ensure the implementation of the law banning kite flying.
He advised to provide best medical facilities to the persons who are injured in the kite flying incidents.
On Sunday, at least 175 persons were arrested during police crackdown against kite flyers in different parts of Lahore.
The crackdown was launched on the instruction of DIG operations Waqas Nazir. Police also recovered hundreds of kites and spools of kite string from the arrested persons.
Sources said that cases have been registered at various police stations of the city against kite flyers.
Earlier in December last year, Punjab Information and Culture Minister Fayyazul Hasan Chohan stated that the provincial authorities had decided to celebrate Basant in Lahore in the second week of February.
The decision was challenged in the Lahore High Courtin a plea contending it might cause loss of more innocent lives. The ban on Basant was imposed by the Supreme Court in 2007 after deaths of several people due to kite strings.
On Thursday, the Government of Punjab decided not to celebrate Basant festival and submit a detailed reply in this regard in LHC.
