Govt insists on changing counsel in NRO case

The attorney general says, government did not budge from its point despite best efforts.

A 16-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, resumed the hearing of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) review case on Tuesday.Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq told the court that the federal government had stuck to its point on the replacement of lawyer in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) review case. In his statement in the court, the attorney general submitted that despite his best efforts, the federal government did not budge from its stance on the ground that it had the right to change the lawyer.During the previous hearing, the attorney general was directed to consult the prime minister on the issue and inform the court. However, the CJP said that Tassadaq Hussain Gilani was not present in the court, therefore, the bench was incomplete. Later, he adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
