Summary Gopal Das, an Indian spy, who was sentenced to 28 years imprisonment, was released on Thursday.

Gopal was arrested for trespassing into the Pakistani border in July, 1984 and he had admitted to his crime during investigation. The court sentenced him to 28 years imprisonment and he was serving his sentence in Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore.Earlier, the Indian Supreme Court had requested the Supreme Court of Pakistan to pardon Das. President Asif Ali Zardari had remitted the remaining prison term of Das as a gesture of goodwill during Pak-India World Cup semi-final. Das crossed into India from the Wagah border on Thursday.
