Work on Mohmand Dam to begin in April next year
Ali Muhammad Khan said the construction will take five years and eight months to complete.
ISLAMABAD (APP) - Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan on Tuesday informed the National Assembly that the initial work on the Mohmand Dam will start in April next year.
The minister said this while responding to a calling attention notice moved by Malik Anwar Taj regarding ‘non-inclusion of Mohmad Dam in phase-I programme as even pre-qualification notices has not been invited’.
He said that Mohmand Dam project has immense importance, as it will store 1.2 million acre feet of water for irrigating agriculture land and generating 800 megawatts of energy.
He said the feasibility study has already been completed and evaluation of the project had been started. He added that the project, scheduled to be completed in five years and eight months after start of the construction work, will significantly contribute towards development of agriculture, industrial, economic and social sectors.
The minister said that biding for the project was invited in Number 2017, and about 25 companies had showed interest in the project. However, he said that companies have been asked to submit their biding report February 2018, but they made a request to give more time for the biding report.
On the request of the companies, he said, the government had extended the biding report time June 26. The minister said that two companies had submitted the biding report.
