PM Imran Khan stresses urgency of building dams
We need to avert the looming water crisis confronting Pakistan
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Muzammil Hussain on Monday called on Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.
During the meeting, the Wapda chairman briefed the prime minister on matters pertaining to constrction of dams.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Imran Khan said that he emphasised urgency of building the Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.
He said: “I may supervise dams project myself, given the urgency. A total of 145 million acre feet is total water outflow of Pakistan, of which 80 percent is in 3 months and only 20 percent in rest of 9 months.

Khan said that Pakistan has only 185 dams and only two large ones, however, in contrast India has 5000 dams and China has 84000 dams including 4000 large ones.
“We need to avert the looming water crisis confronting Pakistan,” he added.
