(WebDesk) - US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on his one day scheduled trip to Pakistan met with Prime Minister Imran Khan and other civilian, and military leadership of Pakistan in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Secretary Pompeo was accompanied by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr.
While meeting with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Secretary Pompeo discussed the potential for the United States and Pakistan to work together to advance joint priorities, including regional peace and stability.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and ISI chief Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar were also present in the PM s meeting with the US delegation.
Secretary Pompeo in his meetings with Pakistan s military and civilian leadership emphasized the important role Pakistan could play in bringing about a negotiated peace in Afghanistan, and conveyed the need for Pakistan to take sustained and decisive measures against terrorists and militants threatening regional peace and stability.
On the other hand, FM Shah Mehmood Qureshi dispelled news of ‘do more’ mantra being rehashed by Pompeo and stated he apprised latter ‘blame game is in no one’s interest’. He claimed the stalemate shrouding Pak-US ties has ended today.
