No one asked ex-Pakpattan DPO to seek apology from Khawar Maneka: report
The report also stated that neither Punjab IGP Kaleem Imam nor the RPO ordered his transfer
LAHORE (Dunya News) – An inquiry report into the ex-Pakpattan DPO and Khawar Manika controversy on Saturday revealed that neither Punjab Inspector General (IG) nor Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sahiwal asked ex-Pakpattan DPO Rizwan Gondal to seek an apology from Khawar Maneka.
The report prepared by Punjab Additional IG Abu Bakr Khuda Baksh over the transfer of Rizwan Gondal revealed that the ex-Pakpattan DPO had presented two stance after the incident.
The report also stated that neither Punjab IGP Kaleem Imam nor the RPO ordered his transfer.
Rizwan Gondal failed to take action after the incident and even kept his seniors in the dark, report revealed.
"The issue between Khawar and Gondal was created over two incidents that took place on different dates, one on August 5 the other on August 23," the report stated.
On Friday, the Supreme Court while hearing suo motu notice of the incident, expressed severe resentment over the transfer of Pakpattan District Police Officer (DPO) Rizwan Gondal after alleged altercation with first lady Bushra Imran’s ex-husband Khawar Fareed Manika.
During the hearing, the CJP inquired, “On whose orders was the transfer orders of DPO were issued?” He maintained that efforts should be made to empower and free the police department of any pressure. “If the transfer was made over the orders of Chief Minister then it is illegal however if it happened due to any other person then it is wrong,” remarked the judge.
Previously, a controversy was stirred as reports suggest Pakpattan DPO was transferred was allegedly linked with the bitter altercation between Gondal and First Lady Bushra Imran s former husband Khawar Fareed Maneka.
Reports suggested that last week, Khawar was asked to stop at a checkpoint but didn’t. When a team of police under Gondal chased and intercepted his car, Khawar allegedly misbehaved and hurled expletives at the personnel.
Subsequently, Gondal and the Regional Police Officer were summoned by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar at his 7-Club Road office and told to go to Maneka’s Dera (village outhouse) and apologise to him.The DPO refused to tender the pressured apology to Khawar, saying the police was not at fault over intercepting him.
Gondal was then notified as OSD by the Punjab Inspector General of Police Syed Kaleem Imam, reportedly for refusing to seek an apology from Khawar.
