NRO case: Musharraf owns assets worth 5.4mn dirham, affidavit submitted in SC
The court has sought details of former presidents source of income.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Former president Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday has submitted an affidavit in Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) in a case pertaining to National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
During the hearing headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, Musharraf’s lawyer Akhtar Shah submitted the affidavit as per which, the ex-president possesses three cars abroad while he has 92,1000 dirham in foreign currency account.
My client owns assets worth 5.4 million dirham, he revealed.
The CJP said that Musharraf cannot make these assets even if he saves all his income. The counsel said that Musharraf has not earned this money from Pakistan as he delivered lectures at various places abroad.
Subsequently, the court has sought details of former president’s source of income.
Zardari submits affidavit
Earlier, former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari submitted assurance that he had no property or bank accounts outside of Pakistan.
Farooq H Naek submitted the one-page affidavit on behalf of the former president to the Supreme Court in a case pertaining to the National Reconciliation Ordinance.
The graft cases were shelved in 2007 after then attorney general Malik Qayum wrote letters to the Swiss authorities following the promulgation of the NRO by then-president Musharraf. The Supreme Court, however, scrapped the NRO in 2009 and declared that all cases closed under the defunct law stood open.
