From Public Manhandling to Apology: The Tale of Imran Ali Shah

The interesting series of events took place within five hours illustrating the power of Social Media

(WebDesk) – A series of interesting yet unfortunate events took place yesterday, on 14th August. On one side, as the entire nation was celebrating on the occasion of Pakistan’s 72nd Independence Day, PTI’s elected MPA, Syed Imran Ali Shah made headlines for all the wrong reasons in a road rage event that led to a social media meltdown.

Syed Imran Ali Shah, the elected MPA from PS-129, was seen thrashing a common man publically on one of the busiest roads of Karachi. After the video went viral, not only was the MPA shown extreme hatred by the Pakistanis, but the PTI had to issue a show cause notice within a couple of hours. The notice claimed that the PTI not only condemned the event but also instructed the MPA to narrate his side of the story immediately or face serious action.

What followed next saw Syed Imran Ali Shah first release a video in which he explained his side of the story but when that wasn’t convincing enough he had to apologize to all the parties involved in the incident. Lastly the MPA visited the victim’s house late night and asked for his forgiveness in public.

The interesting series of events took place within four to five hours illustrating not only the power of social media but also a glimpse of how things can maneuver in PTI’s ‘Naya Pakistan’

Video goes viral on Social Media

A video showing an angry Syed Imran Ali Shah getting out of his Land Cruiser to physically slap a common man, who was driving a Suzuki Cultus, surfaced on Social Media that went viral within minutes. Following the release of the video, Pakistanis affiliated from every political background reacted severely to the video. The public roared in favor of the man driving the Cultus who claimed that he was ‘beaten up because he crossed the MPA’s protocol’. Many, including the supporters of the PTI, demanded that the elected MPA should immediately be sacked for his inappropriate behavior.

Following the public’s collective cry, the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf reacted within a couple of hours and issued a Show Cause Notice to Syed Imran Ali Shah. The notice demanded that the elected MPA should immediately present his side of the story and apologize publically or face action otherwise. This particular step was lauded by the people who eagerly awaited the outcome of the entire incident.

The MPA gave his side of the story and tried making sense of the entire event that had unfolded. He claimed that he reacted the way he did because the person driving the Suzuki Cultus initially instigated hate when he continuously smashed his car with the one of a poor citizen. He further said that seeing the driver act in such an inappropriate manner angered him so he stepped out of his car to talk to the person but he did not listen and started abusing him after which he slapped him. “The viral clip was half-truth and misleading. I cannot turn a blind eye on someone doing injustice to a poor citizen for any reason”, claimed Imran Ali.

After his reply seemed to be rather unconvincing, Syed Imran Ali Shah issued a public apology to the citizen, Dawood.

The drama continued through the night as the PTI’s newly elected member Sindh Assembly Imran Ali Shah, accompanied by Firdous Shamim Naqvi, President of Karachi Division, arrived in Dawood s house late on Tuesday to offer his apology for his action which contradicted the party policy. Reacting in graceful manner the citizen accepted his apology.

Dawood’s son reacts to the event

In a heartfelt message, Dawood’s son, Labib Chauhan took to Social Media where posted a photo of him and his father and expressed his concerns over the entire incident.

“This man standing next to me is My father and is the Senior Additional Director of Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority. My first question to all of you in this country. What if he was your father? What have you done? Secondly, My father is an old friend of Mr. Firdous Shamim Naqvi and Mr Najeeb Haroon, they both know the credibility of this man. He is one of the most honest and dedicated officer in his department. What if he was not the friend of Firdous Shamim saab and Najeeb Haroon saab and because of these two people he entered our house and we gave him the opportunity to apologise. What if my father was an unknown man, would Dr Imran have still come?”

“We are a simple peace loving professional aviators. We still believe on the true acts as a Muslim and that is what my showed as a person came to our home and apologised and My father accepted the apology. But if you were the son of this man, would you accept the apology? If it was US or UK where would have been the state? Just answer me how should I make my heart understand? If my father got bumped into an other car and that man and my father exchanged some words, did My father slapped that person? No he didn’t”

“I am saying this should not be related with the act of complete PTI. Because my father is himself been a fan of Imran Khan. But again, what if it was happened with your father, what would have been your status? WHERE IS STATE. How should I make my heart feel relax." Via Shehzad Ghias
