High courts fail to achieve objectives of Judicial Commission: CJ

Summary The chief justice has said that high courts failed to achieve the target of the Judicial Commission.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday said that limited number of judges in high courts was a great hurdle in achieving the objectives of the Judicial Commission. The chief justice said that the constitution had allowed the Independence of Judiciary for the provision of impartial and transparent justice.Addressing a meeting of the National Judicial Policy Committee (NJPC), the chief justice said that provision of instant justice was the primary responsibility of the state and being the third pillar of the state, judiciary took this responsibility. He said that the judiciary in Pakistan had struggled hard for its independence. The chief justice said that the NJPC was formed for the provision of justice and it began to yield results and action was taken against corrupt judicial staff under this policy. He said that the NJPC had restored people’s trust in the judiciary and its flaws would be removed.
