SC directs to resolve matter of CNIC issuance to transgenders within 15 days

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the relevant departments to resolve the matter pertaining to issuance of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) to transgender community in 15 days.

On court’s inquiry, National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) chairman Usman Mubeen told that at least 90 percent CNICs have been issued over the applications of transgender community.
“Mobile registration units have been activated while 327 cases have been sent Nadra for registration,” he said.
The Chief Justice remarked, “It was expected that the CNICs would have been issued till today. The orders of the court were not only limited to Punjab.”
Nadra authorities told that a representative meeting of the four provinces will be held in the current month.
“Justice (retd) Arif should be appointed the head of the committee. The court had barred the doctors’ certificate for transgender community,” maintained the CJP.
Nadra chairman replied that the certificate is not included in their policy.
Almas Bobby, president of the Shemale Foundation Pakistan, complaint that she was not called in any meeting. “We are looking into the matter on the basis of human rights. There is also a lot of politics within you people,” said CJP.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till indefinite period.
