LHC directs to vacate 13 houses in 16 kanal premises of Miani Sahib Graveyard

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday directed to vacate 13 houses located in 16 kanal land premises of Miani Sahib Graveyard till July 4.

Judge Ali Akbar Qureshi heard the case. Deputy Commissioner Sameer Ahmad Syed appeared before the court.

He submitted report in the court pertaining to the steps taken for the provision of facilities in the graveyard.

The judge directed to increase the rent of the dispensary formed by the district government. The court also ordered to plant trees in the graveyard.

“Also place the name plaques of the people who will plant tress and work in the graveyard,” said the judge.

The court while adjourning the hearing till June 20 directed to submit report of settled and uninhabited premises in the graveyard.

Dunya News unearthed the illegal confiscation of Miani Sahib Graveyard land. It was revealed that at least 456 places reserved for graves in the graveyard were illegally allotted and have been divided among the influential people against the law.

The land mafia has also fixed walls over 1248 kanal land. The relatives of the deceased are being charged higher amounts for the graveyards allotment.

In the aftermath of the report, a commission formed by Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) reviewed the encroachments on the land of Miani Sahib Graveyard.
