LHC directs demolition of illegal houses in Miani Sahib Graveyard

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday directed to demolish all the houses constructed illegally in Miani Sahib Graveyard.

Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi heard the case. “Those violating the orders of court should be jailed for one month,” ruled the judge.

Thecourt expressed resentment over the chief security officer Bashir Ahmad and said, “The administration is also involved in the illegal construction of homes in the graveyard. You will go to jail for three months if concealed any facts.”

The court directed to submit report after demolishing the houses till June 29. “All the construction in the graveyard is illegal. Demolish all the walls in the next phase,” he said.

Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi also praised the efforts of Dunya News saying that the channel identified the confiscation after positive reporting.

Dunya News unearthed the illegal confiscation of Miani Sahib Graveyard land. It was revealed that at least 456 places reserved for graves in the graveyard were illegally allotted and have been divided among the influential people against the law.

The land mafia has also fixed walls over 1248 kanal land. The relatives of the deceased are being charged higher amounts for the graveyards allotment.

In the aftermath of the report, a commission formed by Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) reviewed the encroachments on the land of Miani Sahib Graveyard.
