LHC directs action against criminals in Miani Sahib Graveyard

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday directed police to initiate action against criminals in Lahore’s Miani Sahib Graveyard.

During the hearing, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Lahore and Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) appeared before the court.

The judge remarked, “Be prepared Mr CCPO. There could be a need of grand operation in Miani Sahib Graveyard. We will go in depth of the matter and action will be taken against those responsible.”

The court also expressed concern over building houses in place of a mosque.

LHC directed secretary graveyard committee Bashir Ahmad to rectify the situation. It also ordered to submit detailed report of the graves on next hearing.

The court while concluding the argument adjourned the proceedings till tomorrow.

Dunya News unearthed the illegal confiscation of Miani Sahib Graveyard land. It was revealed that at least 456 places reserved for graves in the graveyard were illegally allotted and have been divided among the influential people against the law.

The land mafia has also fixed walls over 1248 kanal land. The relatives of the deceased are being charged higher amounts for the graveyards allotment.

In the aftermath of the report, a commission formed by Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) reviewed the encroachments on the land of Miani Sahib Graveyard.
