6.4-magnitude earthquake jolts parts of Punjab, KP

Strong tremors were felt in various parts of country.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – A 6.4-magnitude earthquake was felt in the federal capital and areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.

As per details, tremors were felt in Islamabad, Shorkot, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sukheki, Pattoki, Narowal, Zafarwal, Jalalpur Bhattian, Abbotabad, Attock, Nowshera, Kasur, Chiniot, Daska, Swat, Shangla, Peshawar, Malakand, Sargodha, Kundia, Kahota, Hangu, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Azad Kashmir and other areas.

The epicentre of the 6.4-magnitude earthquake is the border area of Tajikistan, Afghanistan. The depth of the quake was estimated to be 97 km.

No loss of life or property has been reported yet.

The proceedings of the Senate session were suspended for 10 minutes by the chairman as the tremors occurred.

Earlier, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake jolted various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the morning. The tremors were felt in Swat, Hangu, Charsadda, Swabi, Mansehra, Bannu, as well as tribal areas including Malakand, Khyber Agency, Orakzai and Kurram Agency.

The epicentre of the 5.5-magnitude earthquake is 20 kilometres north west of Bannu. The depth of the quake was estimated to be 12km.
