ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has decided to indict Minister for Privatisation Daniyal Aziz on March 13 in the contempt of court case.

The case was initiated against the minister on February 2 over his alleged anti-judiciary speeches and remarks made during television shows.

The SC bench had stated — in prima facie — Danyial Aziz has been found guilty of contempt of court as per TV recordings and newspapers’ clippings dated 9th of June-2017, 15th and 31st of Dec-2017.

In his reply submitted in the court on on Monday, Daniyal Aziz blamed media for misrepresentation of his statements and out of context reporting.

Aziz claimed that he has always respected the courts and talks within the limits of ethical codes on sub judice cases. He said he tried neither to dishonour the constitutional institutes nor become an obstacle in the judicial process and justice.

Reasoning that wrong reporting always leads to negative results, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader called for the implementation of the code of conduct for media.

Today, the apex court dissatisfaction over Aziz’s reply and decided to indict him on March 13.

CASE AGAINST TALAL

Earlier today, State Interior Minister Talal Chaudry also appeared before the Supreme Court in a contempt of court case.

Talal Chaudry’s lawyer, Kamran Murtaza, told the court that Chaudry had submitted his response to the show-cause notice by the court and had asked to be provided with CDs of his client’s ‘anti-judiciary’ speech.

To which Justice Ejaz responded that a transcript of the speech had already been provided, however, Murtaza argued that due to the sensitivity of the case, a CD had to be provided.

The court then ordered that the additional attorney general provides Chaudry with the relevant CD.

The court then adjourned for March 8, and the PML-N leader was granted an exemption from appearing owing to a commitment.
