SC turns down NAB's adjournment plea in Hudaibiya Paper Mills case

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) on Monday has rejected plea of National Accountability Bureau (NAB), seeking adjournment of Hudaibiya Paper Mills case against the Sharif family till the appointment of the new prosecutor general.
Hearing the case, Justice Musheer Alam said that there is no base to adjourn the case while NAB lawyer Imran-ul-Haq said that the prosecutor should himself appear before the court.
Meanwhile, Justice Qazi Faez Isa asked the lawyer to not make joke of the court and warned him of launching contempt of court proceeding against him.
All the cases are of high profile for us, he added.

Earlier, NAB had blamed ousted premier Nawaz Sharif and the Lahore High Court (LHC) judges for delaying Hudaibiya Paper Mills Ltd case appeal and requested the top court to reopen the reference.
The Hudaibiya Paper Mills case is basically about money laundering of Sharif family during 1990s.

The case was lodged against Nawaz Sharif, his brother and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Shahbaz’s son and Member of National Assembly Hamza Shahbaz and other members over Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar’s confessional statement on April 25, 2000 before magistrate in Lahore.
The reference was afterwards dismissed by LHC on March 11, 2014 in response to a writ petition filed in 2011, stating that Dar was pressurized to record the statement.
