PM directs Interior Minister to immediately block blasphemous content on social media

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to take all necessary measures to block blasphemous contents on social media.

He said steps should be taken to completely eradicate the condemnable blasphemous contents on social media and those spreading such material should be brought to justice.

The premier has sought report on the issue on daily basis.

He directed that international organizations relating to social media should be approached for blockade of blasphemous contents and foreign office should play its role in this regard.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the issue is before the court and all steps should be taken in line with the guidance of the court. 

Earlier, Islamabad High Court (IHC) heard the case during which it directed the authorities to block web pages showing blasphemous content.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said that if government does not restrict such content, more Mumtaz Qadris would take law into their own hands.

Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said that all six pages have been blocked so far.

Last week, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan directed that a comprehensive strategy should be prepared to curb character assassinations through social media.

He asked the management of social media companies should be contacted to introduce local version of Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp.

Interior Minister said it should also be ensured that spread of controversial material regarding some one s character should be effectively prevented.
