Chief of the Sunni Ittehad Council Sahibzada Fazal Karim has said that terrorism has distorted the image of the nation across the globe, adding that those persuading people for suicide attacks are not loyal to Pakistan. Chief of Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Sahibzada Fazal Karim while addressing the participants of the long march at Bari Imam shrine in Rawalpindi said that the government has not accepted the SIC demand for legislation to curb terrorism and called an All Parties Conference on the issue. He said the SIC would not allow abrogation of the blasphemy law. He also demanded release of the arrested activists of the group. Hundreds of Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) workers started accumulating at Bari Imam Shrine to participate in a long march being kicked off on Saturday against the deteriorating law and order situation and terrorism. The march is being led by chairman SIC Sahibzada Fazal Kareem. The participants of this march would likely to reach Lahore via GT Road initiating from Murree Road today. Meanwhile, Imam Bari shrine has been sealed with barbed wire. Heavy contingents of Police have been deployed at the entry and exit points of various cities including Rawalpindi to stop long march in Punjab on the call of Sunni Ittehad Council. Several activists of the Ittehad reached the shrine of Bari Imam despite hurdles around the shrine. Local administration has imposed section 144 in Rawalpindi and arrested several persons from various religious seminaries. The Punjab government banned long march to avert any untoward incident, following the intelligence reports of possible terror attacks. The spokesperson of council chairman said that around 300 workers of SIC from Mian Channu and 500 workers from Lahore have been arrested so far. Camps which were setup by the council have also been removed from G.T. Road, various cities including Mandrah, Gujranwala and Gujrat, spokesperson added. It is pertinent to mention here that Sunni Itehad Council had announced a long from Bari Imam Islamabad to Data Darbar Lahore on Saturday Nov 27 (today) against deteriorating law and order and terrorism.
