NAB arrests Khalid Lango after court rejects permanent bail plea

Lango had resigned after accountability bureau had seized wads of cash from Mushtaq Raisani's arerst

QUETTA (Dunya News) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested ex- finance advisor to Chief Minister, Mir Khalid Lango on Wednesday.

A plea seeking permanent bail in the corruption case involving Lango was filed by his counsels, Farooq H Naik and Baz Muhammad Kakar today. The court rejected the plea prompting the bureau to get him out of his car in court s premises and nab him.

Counsels for the defendant expressed their concerns over NAB s attempt to keep arrest warrant of their client under the wraps.

Lango had resigned after accountability bureau had seized wads of cash worth Rs 630 million and gold worth Rs 40 million former Balochistan Finance Secretary Mushtaq Raisani’s residence earlier this month.

Lango was granted 15-day protective bail by Islamabad High Court (IHC). Court had handed over Raisani to NAB on judicial remand.

Security forces conducted raids in different parts of country on Raisani’s tipoff and arrested a government contractor named Asad Shah in Karachi’s Defense Housing Authority (DHA) area who worked as his aide and helped him rack in the government funds.

In a raid carried out on May 21 on a bakery in Quetta, personnel seized Rs 57 million, gold, foreign currency and property papers.

A spokesperson of the bureau said that the raid was conducted on Samungli Road on a tip-off provided by contractor Asad Shah.

Other accomplices Sohail Majeed, Asad Shah and Khaliqabad Assistant Account Officer Nadeem Iqbal were arrested after Raisani was interrogated.

Lango was summoned By NAB Balochistan thrice but he failed to appear despite having claimed to offer himself for accountability after Raisani s arerst.
