Summary Shehbaz Sharif addressed all the questions regarding the project, confirms it's Chinese investment
LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday answered all the questions regarding Orange Line Metro train project in a media presentation. He confirmed that the investment was being poured into the project by Chinese companies.
Presenting the case of the project before senior media personnel during the briefing, Punjab CM said that his government succeeded in getting massive concessions even from the lowest bidder. “When was the last time China ever agreed that their loan would be subject to a Pakistani company? Never in the history did it happen”, CM said.
Shehbaz Sharif said that Punjab government not only got a concession from China worth Rs 40 billion but also won the project for a Pakistani company. “It was a major departure from the history of Pak-China relations”, said the CM.
CM added that it was a process of 8-month-long negotiations. “There were very time-taking, testing and taxiing negotiations and there were several occasions when we thought of giving the train project up completely and building another bus-based metro project; but finally it did happen, and that too at much lesser cost”, he said.
