LAHORE (Web Desk / AFP) - US Consul General Zachary Harkenrider called on Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore today (Saturday) and condemned the recent terror attack.

Expressing grief over the loss of precious human lives, Zachary Harkenrider said the United States will continue supporting Pakistan in its efforts to eliminate terrorism.

On the occasion, Punjab Chief Minister reiterated nation‘s commitment against terrorism.

Earlier on Friday, the death toll from the tragic incident reached 76 as another person succumbed to injuries at the hospital. More than 200 people were also injured in the suicide blast that took place on Sunday near the children‘s rides in Gulshan-e-Iqbal park.

Attacks targeting children carry a special resonance in Pakistan, still scarred by its deadliest ever militant assault in which Taliban gunmen killed more than 150 people at a school in Peshawar in 2014, the majority of them students.

A military operation targeting insurgents was intensified after that attack, and in 2015 the number of people killed in militant assaults dropped to its lowest since the Tehreek-e-Taliban were formed in 2007.
