PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – At least three people were killed and one person injured in a US drone strike on the border between Pakistan’s Kurram agency and Afghanistan today (Monday).
The drone fired four missiles on suspected hideouts of Haqqani Network commanders Abdullah and Jamshed in Shahidano Dhand area of Lower Kurram Agency, killing at least three people.
Three nearby houses and two vehicles were also damaged in the attack. Identities of those killed in the strike could not be confirmed yet.
US drone strikes have long targeted militants hiding along the porous border between the two countries. The programme has caused uproar in Pakistan and Afghanistan over civilian casualties in botched strikes.
In June 2014, the Pakistani army launched a major attack on militants operating in Pakistan’s tribal areas on the border, where they had previously been operating with impunity, driving many into Afghanistan.
However, insurgents associated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan occasionally carry out attacks from bases in Afghanistan.
