Summary Security of all private and government schools was beefed up after attack on Army Public School
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Private and government schools on Saturday have been suddenly shut in cantonment area over security threat.
Students arriving at the schools for normal lectures were directed to return. Teachers also were not informed in this regard and the faculty showed up.
Education department stated that the institutions were shut unannounced on Peshawar Deputy Commissioner’s directives. Students said that they were not informed about the day off.
However, education department has not issued a formal notification in the matter.
Security of all private and government schools was beefed up after attack on Army Public School (APS) that claimed lives of over 100 youth and the principal among other faculty.
On December 16, 2014, militants stormed an army-run school in Peshawar. Army troops were dispatched to counter the insurgency. However, more than hundred lives were lost as banned outfit s operatives had opened indiscriminate fire in classrooms. The government formed a comprehensive strategy to counter insurgencies in different parts of the country following the major blow.
National Action Plan (NAP) was formed according to which seminaries in all the provinces were registered and closer coordination among intelligence and law enforcement agencies was ensured.

The attack on the Peshawar school was a reaction from frustrated banned outfits which were annihilated in the Operation Zarb-e-Azb. Militant hideouts and weapon godowns were destroyed while thousands of terrorists were killed in North Waziristan among other tribal areas.
The government also lifted a six-year long moratorium on death penalty after the Peshawar school attack. In December, 2015, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif signed black warrants of two militants involved in the APS attack and they were hanged.

On January 1, the COAS signed death warrants of another nine terrorists involved in attacks on different law and intelligence agencies.
