ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday allowed motorcycle-rickshaws on Karachi roads, commonly known as Qingqis, with a condition of fitness certificate and safety measures, Dunya News reported.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard an appeal seeking ban on plying of motorcycle-rickshaws.

In its ruling today, the court allowed plying of the three-wheelers in Karachi, directing the traffic authorities to come up with an inspection report within three months.

Justice Dost Muhammad remarked that where was the transport department at the time when these rickshaws emerged on roads.

The court also ordered countrywide registration of qingqi rickshaws within three months. No rickshaw could be on the streets until its registration is done, the court added.

Susquently, the case hearing was adjourned for three months.
