Summary President will host a state banquet in Nawaz Sharif's honour

COLOMBO (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday has led a delegation-level meeting with Sri Lankan President in the President House and discussed betterment of bilateral ties.

The Prime Minister is on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka.

PM Nawaz Sharif  was received by Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Bandranaike International Airport on January 4.

In meeting with Sri Lankan President, PM Nawaz Sharif led a delegation that comprises of Special Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, National Security Advisor Lieutenant General (r) Nasir Janjua, Minister for Trade Khurram Dastagir Khan, Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain.

Earlier, Nawaz Sharif reached the President House where he was recieved by President Maithripala Sirisena. Nawaz Sharif was given gun-salute on his arrival. An extravagant welcoming ceremony was organised in Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s honour.

Kalsoom Nawaz is accompanying the Prime Minister on his Sri Lanka visit.  President will host a state banquet in Nawaz Sharif’s honour.

PM Nawaz will hold meetings with top officials of different departments during his stay stretching over three days. PM Nawaz will discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

At least eight memoranda of understanding (MoUs) have been signed between the two sides while other agreements of cooperation in various fields will be signed later on. 



The Prime Minister also attended a reception hosted by Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Prime Minister among several top officials accompanied Nawaz on the occasion. PM Nawaz launched a book called  Majestic Pakistan  and presented a copy to Sri Lankan counterpart.

The book is a compilation of scenery of different areas of Pakistan in form of pictures. The book also highlights the fact that Pakistan is home to Buddhist community.
