Summary Notification for extension cannot be issued without approval of the Federal Interior Ministry.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Legal issues may cause a further delay in Rangers’ exclusive power extension notification, sources stated Thursday.
According to sources, the legal complication arose after a conditional resolution on the extension issue was passed in the Sindh Assembly. Due to this, a new notification for extension cannot be issued without approval of the Federal Interior Ministry.

The issue of extension in exclusive powers provided to Rangers for operation in Karachi is becoming a challenging matter for the Federal government as Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif stopped the government’s team which includes Federal Ministers from reacting further on a conditional resolution passed earlier in Sindh Assembly before a final integrated policy was formed.

Meanwhile the conditional resolution was strongly rejected by Sindh Assembly’s opposition as well as the Federal government.

The Provincial Assembly’s opposition including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) alleged that the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is doing everything it can to ‘save corrupt individuals‘. They said the reduction in Rangers’ powers is not acceptable.

The Federal government has said that economic crimes cannot be avoided under any condition and stated that money laundering and ‘Hawala‘were part of terrorist financing.

Traders of Karachi protested against government reducing the powers of Rangers in Karachi. All Karachi Traders Alliance demanded the provincial government to give unconditional powers to Rangers.
