Summary Defence Minister said that the government respects all institutions

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday said there is no undue interference from the Pakistan Army in matters of governance, Dunya News reported.

In an interview to a British media outlet, Asif said that the government respects all institutions, whether judiciary, media or the army, playing roles in achieving national targets.

He termed the impression of military interference in the governance related matters ‘baseless’, adding that those making such claims should see today in context of what happened in the past.

The defence minister said there’s no rivalry with anyone over obtaining power and authority. He said such rumours would die after another transfer of power from one civilian government to another.

Khawaja Asif said the government respects all institutions. He said which department is contributing more is not even a question, adding that the real question is what is being achieved together.

He said we shouldn’t indulge in what the officials are wearing; whether uniforms or civilian dresses.
