PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday has announced to observe December 16 as ‘Qaumi Azm-e-Taleem Day’ every year in honour of the Army Public School martyrs.

The Prime Minister addressed a gathering today at the Army Public School held to mark the first anniversary of the attack. He said that blood of the martyred children united the nation.

The PM declared December 16 a Day of National Resolve to promote Education (Qaumi Azm-e-Taleem).

Enemies of education are the enemies of humanity. The PM vowed to eliminate elements that aim to push the country in darkness by crippling education process. The deadliest assault shook the nation on December 16 2014.

Prime Minister also announced construction of APS Shuhada University in Peshawar.

Pakistan Army rendered significant success against militants in leadership of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, he added. PM Nawaz said that the government made efforts for establishment of military courts to hold speedy trials of terrorists.

The ruling party also launched a comprehensive offensive named, National Action Plan (NAP) after the attack in past year, he added.

A ceremony has been organised at the attacked school today which is attended by chief of Pakistan Army and top officials of other departments. Chief Ministers (CM) of four provinces are also participating in the first year anniversary.

The Prime Minister also distributed honourary medals among grieving families.



While talking to the parents of the martyrs, PM Nawaz said that it is governments resolve that sacrifices of their sons and daughters woud not go in vain. He reassured the participants of the ceremony that Operation Zarb-e-Azb has broken the back of terror outfits.

He reiterated that the time is not far when insurgency would be completely eliminated from the country and eventually the region. December 16, 2014 not only determined future course-of-action of the country but strengthened resolve against terrorism to the highest degree. 

The Prime Minister said that the people stand shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces in large-scale campaign against militants.

PM Nawaz also talked about the targeted operation that was launched in Karachi on September 16 2013 to root-out criminals elements and end the terror-grip. He vowed to continue the offensive in Karachi until the purpose is achieved.
