Summary Extremists would be punished both in this world and hereafter, says Prime Minister

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Education institutes in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan are closed on Wednesday in remembrance of Army Public School (APS) attack in 2014 that claimed lives of over 100 innocent students.

Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has instructed education authorities to shut colleges, universities and schools in the country to mark first anniversary of the attack. In a statement, PM Nawaz said that sacrifices rendered for cause of elimination of extremism are unforgettable.

Extremists would be punished both in this world and hereafter, he added.

On the other hand, Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif has called for a day off in all educational institutions province-wide. Several programmes will be organised in different areas in this regard.



Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad also called for a holiday in all government and private institutions in the entire province. Candlelight vigil will be held in the Sindh Assembly to pay tribute to the young martyrs. Educational institutions are closed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan as well.

Separately, the Prime Minister had approved naming as many as 122 schools in thef ederal capital after APS martyrs. Following the announcement, Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashood gave the honour to two government schools in Lahore s Model Town.



Pakistan People s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has also formally stated in a statement issued today that schools and libraries in Karachi would be named after the martyred youth. He has vowed to build a monument in Karachi as well.
