Hurriyat leaders meet Pakistani High Commissioner in New Delhi
A two-member delegation was sent by Syed Ali Geelani to meet Abdul Basit in New Delhi.
SRINAGAR (Web Desk) - A two-member delegation sent by Syed Ali Gilani met Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit in New Delhi and conveyed him a message of the veteran leader that that Islamabad should maintain “consistency and firmness” over its Kashmir policy, the party spokesman, Ayaz Akbar said in a statement issued from Srinagar.
The delegation comprising Peer Saifullah and Altaf Ahmad Shah also emphasised that Pakistan should play an active role in highlighting the human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir at international forum.
The team held a detailed meeting for one-and-a-half hours with High Commissioner Abdul Basit in New Delhi.
“They held a detailed discussion over the recent meeting of Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj with Pakistani officials on the occasion of Heart of Asia Conference in Islamabad and also discussed the Pakistan’s Kashmir policy.”
After Swaraj met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and other leaders last week, the two countries decided to engage in a comprehensive bilateral dialogue covering Kashmir and other bilateral issues.
The spokesman said that Deputy High Commissioner and the other officials in the Pakistani mission were also present.
“The delegation handed them a message of Syed Ali Gilani that Pakistan should continue to maintain consistency and firmness in its Kashmir policy and play an active role in highlighting the human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir at international forums,” Akbar said.
The delegation also apprised the Pakistan High Commissioner about the present situation in Kashmir, he added.
