Summary Major Shabbir Sharif was martyred during Indo-Pak war in 1971.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The 44th martyrdom anniversary of Major Shabbir Sharif is being observed today (Sunday).
According to details, a ceremony was arranged by the Pakistan Army in the memory of its most decorated officer. Fateha was offered and floral wreaths were laid on his grave in Miani Sahib graveyard in Lahore.

Battalion officers, who had taken part in the war of 1971, also participated in the ceremony and paid tribute to Major Shabbir.

Major Shabbir Sharif was martyred during Indo-Pak war in 1971.
During the war he was deployed in Sulemanki sector where he embraced martyrdom fighting the enemy troops on front lines.

He is the only person ever who received both the Sitara-e-Jurat in 1965 and Nishan-e-Haider in 1971 for his bravery in the war.
In addition, he is also a recipient of Sword of Honour which granted him the unique honor of having received the three most coveted awards of Pakistan Army.
Sharif is the elder brother of sitting Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif. December 6 has been attributed as “Shabbir Day” by Pakistan Army.
